ECONOMY

Wealth can be qualified in many ways; it can be living a life of peace and quiet, or a life filled with friends and relatives. Good health, also a commodity of wealth as is having lots of stuff. By far the universally excepted gauge of wealth is its quantification as net worth. Net worth can be used to compare individuals by how much they have in terms of money. We have in the many millennia of human civilisation come to master the art of comparing each other by the richness of money. The simple idea is the more money you have in your name–cash or assets the higher ranking you are among people. This ranking system has been used synonymously as a barometer for success.

To me as much as I can enjoy luxury to measure wealth by solely counting what you own materially is rather shallow. The fact is money cannot buy everything and some of the most important commodity of wealth that money cannot buy are sincerity, heartfelt care and trust / dedication. As a whole I view money a part of wealth, not its ultimate form.

Nevertheless here we are in a world with a growing population stooped in a global culture that is designed to cajole everyone to be addicted to the accumulation of money. Money it seems is the panacea for everything under the sun. If you have a problem its because you don't have enough money but in no way does it mean that people who have all the money in the world have no problems.

I find the human addiction to money a fascinating study. Most of us spend much of our lives doing things we are not interested in to make money under the hawkish gaze of capitalists. But I believe in these rapidly changing times the era of the greedy capitalist is waning. As information and social media technologies merge crowd sourcing is going to create a boom in inventions and products at a fraction of the R&D cost of the big corporations. As the internet continues to make life more convenient and efficient in many ways eventually it will also influence the way we make money, this could potentially free us from the grip of the ‘dead end job’ that pays just enough but not quite there.

The articles that I label as ‘economy’ in FutureofFutures.com encompasses my personal opinion on world economy, my dabbling on making money using the internet and philosophising about the changing notion of wealth as we begin the move to a more socialistic appreciation of wealth.
