ENVIRONMENT

For 250 years we have splurged like no tomorrow. It started with the Industrial Revolution of the 1700s and carried on with ever greater intensity through the Modern Age, the Space Age and the Information Age. As a dominant species on Earth we lived under the assumption that our world is so big that it is virtually inexhaustible and indomitable. We have pumped and dumped noxious substances all around us under the assumption that when it disappeared from our view our amazing planet would digest them and make them inert. Mankind has made its gravest mistakes in ignoring the finiteness of Earth and we are starting to pay for it in sad ways.

I am 44+ years old and I will say I have lived a fulfilling life thus far, though I can't say I've done it all, I've had my fill. What concerns me is the world I am leaving behind for generations to come. I have a daughter on the way and when she is roaring to live up her life twenty years from now I worry that the world will be a much tougher place to live in. It will be very unfair for the kids now to grow up with such ambitions and plans that my generation were care free to see come into fruition only to find out that their lives have to be dedicated to fixing what we had abused. We are moving way too slow for comfort when it comes to turning the tide of global warming induced climate change. It is really pointless to even think of a future without putting environmental care front and centre. We have a lot of work cut out for us. We all have to become environmentalist. The scariest scenario we are faced with currently is not the incremental creep of intense weather as much as the relative ignorance about global warming and what we must do about it. So an important part of my FutureofFutures blog is dedicated to collecting information about Global Warming and what we must do about it. I will also be following the work of important futurist such as Elon Musk, Barack Obama, Manoj Bhargava and many more as the world comes together to tackle the most important crisis we are facing simultaneously across the planet.
