EDUCATION

The internet is creating a revolution in the field of education. Its lifting knowledge and information out of  publications, books and people's minds and storing it in a format that is easy to access. With the internet becoming more and more ubiquitous it is becoming second nature even to the non-internet savvy to look it up first for information before asking anyone or even ever going to the library. Whether it is about a car, a country, some disease, the latest about a technology, even a person–google has become a verb. Since education is one of my passions I am using this blog to track innovations in education. I see big changes on the horizon with the internet making traditional schooling as a place to get information obsolete. In the days of books we needed a repository of books and experts to point out what information we can get from which book, which is useful and which is not.

Though we have not completely outgrown the efficacy of schools education systems of the future recognise the efficiency of the internet in education and realise the days of rote learning and memorising facts is fast becoming old fashioned. Nowadays if you have a problem remembering something–no problem, just get your phone out. Academia of the future is about inspiring creativity, of what you can do with information rather how to get it and about spreading understanding and learning using user friendly applications such as social media and video tube sites. Even in hands on skill mentorship, streaming video sites like Youtube are a big help.

Here is a list and quick links to contents on Future of Futures relating to Education. There are articles, book and video reviews. I am also intending to review and rate the best videos relating to learning a variety of subjects from science to history.
